Skin deep

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”

-Audrey Hepburn

Steering back at you in the mirror is someone you no longer recognise, a distant friend from long ago.  Where have you been? you hear your inner voice say.  You ignore it, turning to walk away, when it suddenly hits you – steering back at you is you.  No matter how far you run or how much you hide, you can never escape yourself.

So, is beauty skin deep?

Surrounded by the pressures of society on a daily basis can be really debilitating.  Wherever you turn, there is a picture of the perfectly sculpted model with perfect hair, makeup and clothing.  We are truly a society that believes if we don’t look perfectly maintained everyday that we are unworthy of friends, relationships and most of all success.   How sad is that?

If we stop and take a step back for a minute, we can actually see past all the perfect makeup and apparel, it all looks so unrealistic and unattainable.  Yet, we all (including myself) strive towards this idealistic look every day.  Magazines, runway shows, music videos and social media all portray the same message ‘fit this mould of perfection or your not going to get far in this industry’.  Don’t let yourself live by these shallow values, is beauty really only skin deep?

Break the cycle.

Set yourself free from this idealistic perfection.

You are one of a kind, we have all been created equal, we all have our own unique qualities and features.

There is only one of you in this world, embrace it and start living today!
