My friend Mel and I decided to catchup at Sunday Painters, a relatively new restaurant in Ponsonby, over dinner. From the moment you walked into Sunday Painters you landed in a ‘whimsical world’ a bit like Alice in Wonderland. We were seated at the window table to our delight as it caught my eye as we walked in, it was so beautifully set with white table cloths, shiny cutlery and vintage wine and water glasses.
The unique atmosphere resonated around the room, from the handwritten menu and drinks list, swooping curtains and high ceilings to the vintage table settings. We were served by a friendly waitress and given bread sticks to devour while we poured over the beautifully designed menus. After some deliberation I finally decided on stuffed chicken leg with leek and a bed of greens with a shared side of silverbeet blanched with almonds and butter – yum. My main course of chicken was amazing, so palatable. The evening was a real hit with good company, great conversation and the new discovery of an eccentric restaurant fit for bustling Auckland.
“Reportedly, the owners got together after talking about opening a restaurant for years at their Sunday painting group and opened in August this year”. – Eat here now . It’s reassuring to know dreams do come true!
Highly recommended restaurant with mouth-watering food, great hospitality and reasonable prices.
Tip: Book a table before you go or you will miss out!
